The State Duma put forward an initiative to temporarily return to the previous recycling fee rates for a number of car owners. According to the appeal received by the government, it is proposed to freeze the recent increase in payments for citizens who have faced a sharp increase in the financial burden when buying a car.

In particular, the initiative assumes that for car owners who placed an order for a car before October 29, the opportunity to pay the fee at the old, lower rates may be retained.

For many motorists, such an increase came as a surprise, which will significantly increase the final cost of all cars. As noted in the appeal, the total amount of the fee for thousands of citizens can reach 844 thousand rubles or more, which is often comparable to half the cost of the car and exceeds the financial capabilities of the owners.

Who has to pay more now?

When registering the second and subsequent cars before the expiration of 12 months from the date of registration of the first car imported for personal use.

In case of resale or purchase of a vehicle for which the recycling fee was previously paid at a preferential rate, if 12 months have not passed from the date of its registration.

What amounts are now charged?

After the increase, the scrappage fee for imported cars increased significantly. For example, for a car with an engine capacity of 2 to 3 liters you now need to pay 844 thousand rubles, and for a car with an engine over 3.5 liters - 1.25 million rubles.

The initiative is currently under consideration. The government has a month to formally respond, but it is expected that the issue can be resolved in a shorter time due to its high social significance for thousands of car owners.
