Ford ceases production of Focus after 27 years of production

The European division of the Ford automobile concern has finally completed production of the Focus model. According to Autocar, the last car of this family rolled off the assembly line on November 15.

The legendary model is not expected to have a direct successor. According to Autocar, the company plans to replace the popular hatchback with a new crossover, but its appearance on the market will not occur until 2027.

The decision to replace the Focus with a more current model was made by Ford back in 2022 as part of its lineup electrification strategy. Previously, the Explorer and Capri electric cars had already entered the European market, but their sales did not live up to the company’s hopes.

Over 27 years of production, approximately 12 million Focus vehicles were sold. The model was updated several times, and in Russia, cars of the first generations were officially produced and sold, repeatedly winning the title of bestseller both in the new and used car markets.

The end of Focus production had a negative impact on the fate of the plant in Saarlouis, Germany. As the publication notes, the company’s employees were actually left without work. Ford has not yet announced which model will be produced on this assembly line instead of the Focus, and the future of the plant remains uncertain.

Ford's new mass model in Europe should be a crossover comparable in size to the Kuga. It was previously reported that the company does not plan to replace the current SUV with a new product, but will sell them in parallel. Production of the new crossover will be established at a plant in Valencia, Spain, and it will be equipped with different types of power plants.
