Diseases with which you should not drive

The new list of medical contraindications came into force on September 1.

From September 1, 2025, an updated list of medical contraindications and restrictions for drivers came into force in Russia. The document, approved by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin back in April, brought the list of diseases into line with the international classification of diseases (ICD-10).

There were no major changes in the rules, but the list was supplemented with new items. The list included “general disorders of psychological development” and “color vision anomalies” (color blindness).

Key contraindications for driving:

Organic, symptomatic mental disorders;
Mood disorders (affective disorders);
Schizophrenia, schizotypal and delusional disorders;
Neurotic and somatoform disorders;
Personality and behavior disorders in adulthood;
Mental retardation;
General disorders of psychological development;
Mental disorders associated with the use of psychoactive substances;
Epilepsy;
Anomalies of color vision (color blindness);
Binocular blindness.

Now doctors of any clinic are required to report diseases detected in a patient that may interfere with driving. In this case, the driver will be sent for an extraordinary medical examination, which must be completed within three months. Based on its results, a previously issued driver's license may be revoked.
